Got out in "55 for one year and during that year I was a deckhand aboard the D.O. Mills (34 htaches) oreship on the Great Lakes. I also stood helm watches. I would like to hear from any old shipmate from the USS Grackle AMS-13, Comfairwg One aboard USS Kenneth Whiting, USS Pine Island, USS Salisbury Sound, the USS Yorktown CVA/CVS-10, and my last ship was the USS Boston CAG-1 (the world's first and finest guided missile heavy cruiser). I became a ham radio op aboard the Yorktown in 1958 (K8SXS) and also operated a ham sta from NMCRTC Detroit in "62-64 K8NR. I was W1DGI/mm aboard the Boston for four years from 1965-69 - kept the C.O. in touch with his wife once a month via ham radio phone patches. My son John Jr is a Chief Gasoline Turbine Electrician at Great Lakes, IL instructor. I instructed TTY school in Sdiego from '69-71, then NAF Naha, Okinawa for 15 months until transfer to the Fleet Reserve on Nov 29, 1972 with 20 years...
