The young wife that got her letter
That broke her soft heart and soul
The letter that was written to tell her
“Your husband is no longer a living soul.”
For the son that turned fifteen today
Quietly crying in the bedroom depths
As he hid the pain of the loss of his mother
Trying to be a man in spite of her death
For the daughter calling her father’s name
Because her father is not here for her wedding day
She yells at God and country in anger and shame
Because her Daddy can’t be here to give her away
For the baby that cries with tear filled eyes
For his mommy died for what she believed
All he remembers is her soft voice when he cried
But now daddy and he have to deal with the grief
Rejoice for the returning military men and women
But remember the ones that were left behind
Be happy for the loved ones of those at home again
But remember the loved ones that were left behind
This is for the ones left behind
For them we fight, we bleed, and we fall
Our sacrifice is for God and country
Some make it back, but some gave all
