Every year a a group of selectees come and trains onboard CONSTITUTION.I am so very proud of the unity and team work they display as the march through the Navy Yard. Comments: This site was recommended by a fellow CPO. I am a Plank owner for both the USS New York City (SSN 696) and the USS Jacksonville (SSN 699). I was originally a DSC(SS) until the Navy in its infinite wisdom(?) decided that all Submarine Data System Technicians would be more useful as Fire Control Technicians (Guns). What a horrible decision for me, since I had never been exposed to FT's and suddenly Iwas the Weapons Dept LCPO.(on my previous commands DS's were part of NavET division and all my NEC's were RM and CTM.) Currently 100% SC PT and living in Salem Oregon.

Comments: Hey Shipmates, I FINALLY found how to make an entry in this decklog. I joined the Navy in 1964 and went to Boot-Camp in San diego, I went to RM-A School Jan-66/May-66. Went to Viet-Nam Republic of in Jun-66 and was in country from Danang to the DMZ (Dong-Ha and Cua-Viet) until Mar-69. I then went to Davisville R.I., to train for Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica where I spent the summer at the South Pole and Wintered-over at McMurdo Station. After that, was at the Naval Reserve Center as a stationkeeper in Pasadena, CA, until 1973. I got off Active Duty after 9 years and spent the next 17 years in the Reserves. I served with Naval Beach Group -1 out of Coronado, then Beach Master Unit 1 out of Coronado, then the U.S.S. Gray (FF-1054) and finally ended up on the U.S.S. Lewis B. PULLER 9FFG-23) out of Long Beach before joining the Inactive Ready reserves in 1989. Qualified Surface Warefare onboard the Puller as well as Damage Control Assistant and Underway O.O.D., I was eligible for retired pay at 60, which was on 11/13/2007, and have been in Retired status since then. Comments: Hello, Brothers and Sisters! Just an observation: MCPON Campa has taken steps to reinstate the true spirit of Initiation, a.k.a. Induction, or In(place letters here)tion. Regardless of the name, the process was originally meant to teach humility, ways of facing difficult challenges, camaraderie, accomplishment, acceptance and pride. Thank you, Joe! Because the CPOs in the San Antonio area have an array of commands, both Active Duty and Reserve Component CPO Selectees can train and go through the Initiation Process TOGETHER (One Navy, One Fight!). To add to that- we teach the 5 Rules of Unity in the Mess, derived from the training that has been so valuable to the new Chiefs coming in.
5 Rules for Unity in the Mess
Rule 1- One Navy, One Fight, One VOICE.
Rule 2- We ALL are members of the Navy Combat Team.
Rule 3- The Capabilities of the Team are Infinitely Superior to theCapabilities of the Individual.
Rule 4- The Team is only as strong as its weakest member.
Rule 5- Am I my brothers' and sisters' keeper? You bet your Anchors I am!
Enjoy the season, and participate as much as you can, as the CPO Messtrains, challenges and ultimately accepts this FY 09 Class of Selectees.
