The last couple of years have brought immense adversity, and I want to thank my kids first and foremost. You gave me the strength to keep going when things were at their toughest, you are my ultimate anchor.
Professionally, my Sailors and peers got me here. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from a long line of Master Chiefs, Senior Chiefs, and Chiefs. Special shout out to CSCS Joseline Paulino, ABCM Victor Paulino, CMDCM Slade, and a whole lot of others that have helped me along the way.
Finally, to the junior Sailors I’ve had the privilege to lead: thank you. Your hard work, dedication, and challenges have made me a far better leader than I ever could have become on my own.

I would also like to thank all the Chief Petty Officers, Officers, and fellow Sailors, past and present, that I have met through my 16+ years. There are too many to name, misspell, and miss. I have learned both from those above me and those next to me. I look forward to continuing to learn.

Comments: I have been fortunate throughout my career to work alongside some truly transformational Chiefs. They pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for, trusted me with opportunities to lead and make difficult decisions, and gave me the space to learn from those decisions. When I made the wrong call, they showed me grace and allowed me the opportunity to correct my mistakes. Through their leadership, they taught me that success isn’t about always making the right decision or always winning; it’s about having the humility to learn from your mistakes, the resilience to bounce back, and the determination to keep moving forward. Thank you for adding tools to my tool box, I am truly Glad To Be Here.

Comments: To the first Chief's Mess I encountered, when I first checked in on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN in 2009, THANK YOU! There would not be a LNC Carter, if it weren't for the leaders that I met while there. Those same leaders are still my go to when I need advice. AVCM (Ret.) Tinesha Troupe took me under her wing, after I very much gave her hell, and made me who I am today. I look forward to honoring her return on investment, when she pins my anchors on on 16 September.
When I hadn't advanced to Third Class and the Navy gave me my PTS denial letter, it was YNCS (Ret.) Tonja Williams who took me in her office and led us in prayer alongside NCCS (Ret.) Karen Slowe.
It was AVCM (Ret.) Eric Beers who took me to my first Chief's Mess dinner, onboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, and what a dinner it was. That was my first taste, no pun intended, on what I could one day have.
When I was stationed at the toughest command in my career, in a space where I had no one, I had LNC Oneka Stegall. She gave me affirmations. She reminded me who I was and she spoke life in to me when I didn't want to go on with my career. She mentored me when it wasn't the popular thing to do. She fought for me when she didn't have to.
NCCS Ella Williams walked in to my office, onboard USS ESSEX, and treated me as if we'd known each other for years. She never held what she heard about me, she didn't treat me bad, and she always asked me my side, before she presented anything. She made me a better leader by being a servant leader. She had a million tasks to do but she always made time for each sailor she encountered.
The Chiefs I've encountered are something like the best. I'm so grateful our journeys have crossed paths and am forever indebted to them. The only way I can pay them back is to pay it forward. I will be The Chief to my sailors that each of them were to me. This selection meant the world to me because I can finally thank my mentors in a way that only this accomplishment can do.

Both of them played a major part second time serving together on the USS Cheyenne, using the motto from the USS Oklahoma City. "The Sooner The Better", it pushed me past my limits. Under the stewardships of STSCS(SS) Eric Cornelious, the lesson to never give up or be lazy was drilled in. STSC(SS) Darrell Malone taught that you had to be resourceful to get the job done. So many other names can be listed for making me the sailor that I am, but these men are the ones who allowed failure and created success. I am honored to earn the right to wear the CPO uniform.

A special thank you to Senior Chief Marchant DaSilva, Master Chief Amy Johnson, HM1 Rex, and YN1 Velasquez for your mentorship, guidance, and unwavering investment in my success. Your leadership challenged me to become a better Sailor and leader.
To my amazing fiancée, Odelle Walker, thank you for your selfless love and support. You dedicated countless hours organizing my documents, strengthening my package, and ensuring I had everything I needed. This achievement would not have been possible without your sacrifices and belief in me.
To my family, friends, shipmates, mentors, Chiefs, and everyone who offered advice, encouragement, prayers, or simply believed in my potential—thank you. Whether your contribution was large or small, you helped shape this moment, and I will never take it for granted.
I am honored and humbled to join the Chief's Mess. I will carry forward the lessons, trust, and confidence each of you has placed in me. Thank you for being part of this journey

This milestone is the culmination of every success, challenge, and lesson experienced throughout my Naval career. While this selection marks a significant achievement, the journey of leadership and service continues.
To my family, especially my wife and my mother: you are my bedrock. Your unwavering support and endurance during long deployments and time away from home are the foundation of my success. Without your strength and sacrifices, I could not aspire to be the caliber of Sailor and leader our Navy demands.
To the Chiefs Mess and the Officers who have mentored me throughout my career: thank you for your steady guidance. Your counsel kept me focused, especially during challenging times, and your belief in my potential has been a guiding light. Receiving your congratulatory calls serves as a powerful reminder of the trust you have placed in me. I am ready to execute.
To my fellow shipmates, friends, and peers: you are not forgotten. Every interaction has shaped me into a better Sailor and a proud member of the United States Navy—the greatest Navy in recorded human history. Thank you

Next, I want to thank the GOATs who guided me, mentored me, and even put up with the pain in the ass I could be at times. LCDR Blackwell, YNC Cole, YNC Beardsley, and PSCS Marquez your leadership, dedication, and drive motivated me in more ways than you probably realize. Thank you for investing your time and energy into my development.
One of the greatest experiences of my Navy career was serving alongside our Team. It gave me a new perspective on what it truly means to be a family, looking out for one another, supporting each other through every challenge, and never leaving anyone behind. Every Chief on that Team played a role in my growth, and I also want to recognize the peers who have made Chief over the last few years since I transferred. Watching your success has continued to inspire me.
I also want to thank my team in New York City. BMCS Figueroa, you were one of the key figures in my development. I owe you so much gratitude for taking a confused and lost Airman and helping me find my path. Without your leadership, guidance, and belief in me, I don't think I would have started this journey in the Navy.
CMC Sliker, you were truly a ray of sunshine during some of my darkest moments. When people talk about a Chief who gets things done, your picture belongs right next to that definition. Every time I came to you with a problem or needed support, you delivered—and then went above and beyond. Thank you for always having my back.
To the RTC Goat Locker! so many of you played an important role in shaping the humble YNC (Sel) standing before you today. Every conversation, every piece of advice, every challenge, and every lesson has stayed with me. Those moments are permanently engraved in my mind.
CMDCS Carrel, GSMCS Cortes, AOCS Perez, DCCS (Ret.) Sutherland, BMC Mauer, OSC Enoch, BMCS Richmond, GMC Reckmann, HMC Mann, CMDCS Guzman, CUCS Meale, CSCS Shivers, CWO2 Blakeney, and AMECS Naranjo, thank you. Thank you for crossing paths with me, for taking the time to teach, mentor, encourage, and support me. Many of you probably don't realize the impact you had on my life, but I want you to know that every conversation, every word of encouragement, and every example you set helped shape the Sailor and leader I am today.

Comments: ⚓ The Making of a FY27 Chief: A Master-at-Arms Tale
If you had told me back in 2016 that I’d be getting selected for anchors on the FY27 board, I would have assumed you’d been breathing in too much non-skid on the flight deck. The journey from a clueless junior sailor to a Chief Petty Officer is rarely a straight line, and mine looks more like the track of a drunken sailor trying to find their rack in the dark.
🚢 Chapter 1: Lost on the "Big Stick" (CVN 71, 2016-2019)
Every naval career needs an origin story, and mine started on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. During our 2017-2018 deployment, I learned the fundamental truths of the Navy: the ship is a floating city, sleep is a myth, and if you look purposeful while carrying a blue folder, nobody asks questions.
As a junior sailor, half my deployment was spent just trying to find my way out of engineering spaces I had accidentally wandered into. I survived on a diet of terrible coffee, Rip Its, and the sheer will to make it to the next port call. Little did I know, surviving the chaotic ecosystem of a Nimitz-class carrier was just the warm-up for my real career as an MA.
🚓 Chapter 2: The Sheriff of San Diego (NAVBASE San Diego, 2019-2022)
In 2019, I transferred to NAVBASE San Diego to do actual law enforcement. I showed up as an E-4, thinking I knew everything. I left as an E-6, realizing I knew nothing, but was really good at pretending I did.
Promoting from Third Class to First Class in one tour doesn't happen by accident. It happens because you are terrified of disappointing your mentors.
MACM (Ret) McNuckle possessed a stare that could melt a padlock and a coaching style that essentially boiled down to, "You are going to study for your advancement exam, or I will personally assign you to direct traffic at the main gate during rush hour for the rest of your natural life."
CMDCM Fuentes dropped leadership wisdom that always seemed to click exactly three days after I actually needed it, saving me from myself on multiple occasions.
MAC (Ret) Ripley taught me how to be a real cop, navigating the wild west of San Diego liberty incidents without losing my mind or my rank.
Between breaking up base housing disputes and dealing with Sailors who thought the gate barriers were merely "suggestions," I somehow earned my First Class crow.
🦎 Chapter 3: The GTMO Grind (NAVSTA GTMO, 2022-2025)
Fresh MA1 and full of misplaced confidence, the detailer decided I needed a tropical vacation. So, they sent me to Guantanamo Bay from 2022 to 2025.
My first tour as an MA1 was an exercise in extreme patience, mostly involving the local wildlife. I spent an embarrassing amount of time explaining to junior sailors that, no, you cannot arrest the banana rats, and yes, the iguanas actually do have the right of way.
The only reason I survived GTMO as a functional First Class was the absolute powerhouse of a support system I had. MACM Harley, MAC Falcon, MAC Palmer, and MAC Ubiera formed a council of mentorship that steered me through every administrative nightmare and leadership challenge the island threw at us.
And then there was my peer, MAC (SEL) Mcwhirt. We kept each other sane through a mixture of relentless trash talk, and competing to see who could handle the most ridiculous duty section calls without throwing their radio into the bay.
⚓ Chapter 4: SWFLANT and the Final Boss (2025-Present)
Which brings me to 2025. I checked onboard SWFLANT, trading the Caribbean iguanas for whatever lurks in the Georgia/Florida swamps, guarding things that go bump in the deep.
I thought I had finally figured the Navy out. Then, the FY27 results dropped. My name was on the list.
The initial feeling of overwhelming pride lasted for exactly three minutes before the reality of CPOI set in. Now, I will spend my coming days running on little sleep, carrying around a vessel that feels like it weighs 400 pounds, and singing "Anchors Aweigh" while trying to remember every piece of naval heritage dating back to 1775.
I look back at the confused kid lost on the Theodore Roosevelt, the fast-tracking cop in San Diego, and the sweaty MA1 in GTMO. Every ridiculous working party, every gate shift, and every piece of brutal, honest mentorship led exactly here. The anchors are going to be heavy, but after this wild ride, my shoulders are definitely ready for them.

Comments: I am honored and humbled to have been selected as a Chief Petty Officer. I want to give a special thanks to my father and my family for their love and support they have given me
A very special thank you to RSCS Miranda and RSC Rudolph for the taking the time to mentor me as a young sailor and molding me into the leader that I am today. Without their investment in me I will not be where I am today. I have met my great JAGs and LNCs in my career as an LN, too many to name them all. To my JAGS I will see you again in the fleet and I will be proud to work along side you as your chief. To my LNCs, I will do my very best to live up to the standards that you all have set and I look forward to the day I get to work along side with you again.

A heartfelt thank you to QMCS (Ret.) San Miquel for her mentorship at USFJ, Chief Handley for being such an incredible mentor and blessing, Chief Spry for helping with my package and leading by example, Chief Londry for motivating me and encouraging my personal growth, and Senior Chief Schad for believing in me, encouraging me to stay Navy, and helping me with my HYT waiver.
There are so many others - past, present, and future - who have made a lasting impact on my career. I truly wouldn't be where I am today without your guidance, mentorship, and support. Thank you all!
